Fusing Forms

Contemporary Women Reimagining Encaustics

Encaustic, derived from the Greek word enkaustikos meaning "to burn in," is one of the oldest artistic mediums, combining heated resin, beeswax, and pigment.

Revived in the 20th century, it continues to inspire contemporary artists today. This exhibition features nine female artists who expand upon traditional encaustic techniques in painting, sculpture, printmaking, book arts, and mixed-media works. Together, they explore the medium’s versatility by incorporating fibers, found objects, and conceptual ideas, blending ancient processes with modern approaches to create compelling, tactile forms. Their works reflect the enduring and evolving nature of encaustic art.

Participating artists:

Andrea Carracedo, Terri Yacovelli, Michele Randall, Christina Brady, Alaina Enslen, Sally Hootnick, Tracy Casagrande Clancy, Bonny Leibowitz, Lorraine Glessner
