About the event

A common element that visual art and music share is their power to evoke an emotional response. Artists and musicians create works that not only unlock emotions, but also alter one’s mood, trigger memories, and act as a source of comfort and inspiration. Visual art and music have numerous parallels because they share elements such as harmony, balance, rhythm, and repetition. In this exhibition both artists are exploring the relationship between art and music.

Sean Bowen, after exhibiting in New York City and New England since the mid 90's, is now calling his Rhinebeck studio home.

Although Sean may have relocated to the country, the city streets remain in his artistic senses. "My main objective is to create mood for the viewer through my use of color, texture, and subject," Bowen says. His formal training included the Silvermine Guild of Artists, Paier School of Art, the University of Oregon and the Streets and Sidewalks of NYC.

Al Summ (1944-2017) was a devoted jazz fan from an early age who owned a vast collection of music and had a scholar's appreciation of jazz history. From the early 1960’s,as an art student, Al specialized in portraits of jazz musicians. His love of jazz was inspirational and his art was the outward expression of that spirit. He was devoted to spreading the message of jazz and he made jazz something one wanted to know more about.
