TEXTURE

A world of tactile surfaces

Texture in art is described as the way artists use their chosen medium to create a physical or tactile surface, by creating either a three dimensional aspect to the work’s surface, or even just the appearance of texture. It refers to the physical appearance or feel of an object, and can be seen through bumps, ridges, grooves and other manipulations.

This exhibit demonstrates how texture can be a fundamental part of an artwork through the craftsmanship of four amazing artists - Joel Brown, Mary Flad, Karen Madden, Bob Madden. Their work explores how texture in different mediums can provide a sense of depth, add interest, evoke emotion and create visual balance or contrast.
