I start each painting with a feeling. Decide on some initial palette, which may change. Scribble so I’m not looking at a blank space and the dance begins.. There is the foundation from which I elaborate and build. Utilizing layers I add dimension, sometimes a few layers, sometimes I change the entire plan if it isn’t feeling right. I keep digging until the piece speaks to me. This is intuitional painting. That being said I am a trained painter and have years of creating art behind me.
I studied painting at the age of twelve with a professional artist Anthony Trujuilo. Went to Parsons for figure drawing . Attended Pratt Institute where I majored in painting and minored in jewelry making. As a career I designed costume jewelry in nyc. It took many years till I was able to devote myself to the arts again. A native New Yorker I finally pulled up stakes 18 years ago and transplanted myself to the Hudson Valley.

I have always lived near the water, trees and hills… south of Rochester in the Finger Lakes region of New York, in Dutchess County, in the Hudson Valley - Catskill region and now in Nantucket. I am most at peace in the landscape. Painting gives me a vehicle of expression and a place ‘to be’. Colors and texture are my language.
In Nantucket, my palette has changed: blues are ‘ more blue’, reds and yellows are ‘richer’, greens are ‘sandy-grassy’, whites are in rainbow skies and paper paths… These colors, these places, this brush… this cloud… this ocean … this idea.
As a painter
I offer a way in and a way out,
the depths and the heights,
the day and the night,
I offer the cloud and the ocean
the cloud and the me
A place to be
